We are seeking a Special Projects Lead who will be responsible for all structuring and corporate development activities of annuity, longevity, and protection / mortality reinsurance business opportunities.

Principal accountabilities include:

  • The Corporate Development Lead is responsible for the development and execution of solutions for all annuity, longevity, and protection/mortality reinsurance business opportunities, in all territories.
  • Lead activities in new product offerings and new market development.
  • Oversee the execution, governance and analysis of L&G’s reinsurance contracts (both inward and outward reinsurance) including commercial negotiations and overseeing any quantitative and qualitative analysis.
  • A key member of the client facing team, working closely with the rest of the new business team (including investments and transaction teams) to deliver an excellent client experience; this role will be a key contact for reinsurers and internal stakeholders.
  • Provide actuarial and structuring support to other areas of the business, including contributing to business planning, reporting and ad hoc business requests and projects. It is expected that this role will work closely with the investment, capital management and 2nd line teams amongst others.
  • Drafting and presenting Committee and Board papers.
  • Develop and maintain highly collaborative and effective relationships at all levels within the organization, including in Bermuda, the UK and US, maintaining key relationships with the UK based Corporate Development and Legal teams.
  • Actively promote L&G Re’s culture of ownership across the organization and be a role model for L&G behaviours of Straightforward, Collaborative and Purposeful.
  • Carry out duties with integrity, purpose and diligence, ensuring that appropriate professional standards are maintained, that pricing requirements and deadlines are met, that records are maintained appropriately and that the actuarial processes are fit for purpose and meet internal and regulatory requirements.

Skills and experience required:

  • Must be a Fellow of the Institute & Faculty of Actuaries (or similar, eg FSA or FCIA).
  • A minimum of 7 years’ relevant experience within the re/insurance industry or pension consulting industry, 3 of which would preferably be focused on structuring transactions in pension risk transfer or related lines of business.
  • Demonstrated understanding of technical aspects of external regulatory reporting, capital and solvency requirements and IFRS reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret financial information, identify key issues based on this information and propose solutions and measures to address them.
  • Experience working with legal contracts and the execution of such contracts.
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent technical actuarial skills as well as the ability to apply a balanced judgement of risks and the views of others in order to achieve business aims.
  • Demonstrated ability to act independently, as well as part of a team, and to develop effective professional relationships at all levels throughout an organisation, including strong internal stakeholder management skills.
  • A keen commercial awareness, as well as good understanding of the economic, market and regulatory environment in which L&G Re operates.
  • Must be organised, highly efficient and enjoy working in a fast-paced dynamic environment, with the ability to deliver reliable work of a high quality in demanding timescales.
